Limitations and future work lines
"REPOSIT" is an active anti-collision sytem using "Relative GNSS" algorithms to increase the system performance for the proper detection of collisions.
Major requirements for REPOSIT to work properly includes:
- The need for a reliable V2V communication. This is something expected in a realistic way for the near future. Basis are being drafted on 802.11p WAVE standards.
- Enough market penetration degree of REPOSIT system. This requirement is common to most cooperative systems as vehicles need to complete their information with external received information. The recommended degree of market penetration to become operational is of 30%.
- REPOSIT as it is, would only detect vehicles themselves also equipped with another REPOSIT system. This point is addressed along future proposed worklines.
Future Worklines
To overcome the limitations of REPOSIT system, it is proposed to strengthen the weaknesses detected by following two different worklines:
- Adding complementary sensors to REPOSIT (in below order):
- Use of Vision Machine sensors
In order to detect not only other vehicles without a REPOSIT system inside but also external obstacles and people, these sensors would expand REPOSIT scope of applications to its limits. Also, cameras are getting cheaper and their usage more extended on vehicular field. - Maps Usage
Along REPOSIT simulations we have not taken into account the cartography information behind any navigator. This information is specially valuable to enhance the heading information on harsh environments and so the right attitude of the vehicle and to foresee the nearby topography of the upcoming road segments. - EGNOS and GALILEO
Those systems have already been simulated and will increase the integrity and availability of REPOSIT detections. - Integration with available Vehicle's Sensors
Including Odometer & speedometer as well as other available dead reckoning sensors.
- Use of Vision Machine sensors
- Making REPOSIT system also useful at low levels of market penetration:
- By Including Additional Services
REPOSIT is also capable to receive information from any intrastructure installed (I2V). This can lead to offer additional services and information to the driver with a REPOSIT unit inside. Also, this installed infrastructure can in certain road spots act as the suppliers of REPOSIT information to vehicles. - By Using Multiplatform Technologies in REPOSIT system
While REPOSIT system last to slowly penetrate the market, by using for instance, UMTS/3G technology, it is possible to receive additional services from the beginning with the current available infrastructure.
- By Including Additional Services
